The History of Transfer Factors

In 1949, Dr. H. Sherwood Lawrence discovered that when you transfer blood to another person, some of the donor’s immunity is transferred to the receiving person. From this discovery, research began its journey through the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Scientists believed they had found that ultimate immune system and health enhancer. They believed that transfer factors would be the ultimate natural medicine. As technology increased, more and more was learned about the benefits of transfer factors. More than 3000 studies were conducted and $40 million (USA) was invested into research. Scientists from more than 60 countries were involved in this research. Two developments stopped this progress. First was the development of antibiotics. Antibiotics were inexpensive to manufacture. They were effective. Antibiotics took the show.Another development was the contamination of the world’s blood supply by HIV and hepatitis C virus. Up until this time, the only known source of transfer factors was derived from blood. Research stopped in its tracks. In 1986, two hog scientists discovered that mothers passed down their transfer factors to their babies through the placenta and colostrum in order to give the baby’s immune system a chance to survive a hostile environment of pathogens. These scientists found the cows did the same thing. Often calves will not survive if for some reason they do not receive the colostrum from the mother. Research began to move forward again. Antibiotics still reigned as king in the medical world. Many scientists that worked with transfer factors derived from blood didn’t think transfer factors from colostrum would work, so they didn’t enter the research.Three events in history changed all of this. First, technology advanced. Secondly, germs began to become resistant to antibiotics. Third, 4Life Research created a large consumer base from which they derived a great deal of information about how transfer factors affected the health and immune systems of more than a million customers. Now research is exploding!Every year and sometimes every month, something new is discovered about the effectiveness and roles of transfer factors. 4Life Research was the first to bring a line of transfer factor products to the market that contained transfer factors from cow colostrum. Next, their in-house scientists discovered that eggs contained transfer factors and the combination of the two increases their effectiveness by 185%. Transfer factors from colostrum and eggs were found to be actually superior to transfer factors from humans because animals are exposed to many more species of bacteria, viruses and fungi. Animals live in the wild while humans try to keep sterile. Animal transfer factors have hundreds of years of more exposure creating a more functional transfer factor.

*On this site you will be exposed to many testimonies and nutritional ideas. We encourage you to use common sense and prudence in evaluating testimonies and research. Testimonies can be based on "placebo effects," which basically means that you can experience temporary results just because you really believe you will. Research can be complicated to translate into real life situations. Even medical doctors may disagree on certain subjects. It is our desire to expose you to many different ideas for your consideration. We never encourage you to replace traditional medical therapies or protocols recommended by your physician. Our focus is on supporting the immune system, which can assist your body in the healing process.

When I make references to the huge incomes that are being earned by a number of 4Life distributors, I feel it's only honest and fair to share the other side of the picture. As is true with any network marketing opportunity or with any other business opportunity, there are many more people earning very little or nothing than are earning large incomes. You should not approach networking marketing with the mindset that this is a get rich scheme. Being successful in network marketing requires hard work, a degree of developing your skills, some investment of money and learning to network correctly. A very few networkers "luck" their way into success.
Typically, the largest segment of participants in any program is the individuals who are primarily in the program for the benefit of the product and do not earn an income. The next largest segment of participants is the part-time network marketers who are interested in earning an income. Individuals within this segment generally will earn from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, with a small number earning a few thousands. The next group of participants is the moderately experienced network who either are hard working part-timers or full-timers who are earning from several hundred dollars per months to a several thousands dollars per month. The last and the smallest segment of this industry are the hard working full-time network marketers who are earning from a few thousand dollars per month up to substantial a five-figure monthly income. Generally, this type of marketer is more experienced, willing to sacrifice a great deal to reach their goals, patient, persistent, and willing to continue the learning process. I encourage you to use common sense in your expectations and when considering a network marketing opportunity.

ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT GERMS

U.S. Orders Resistance Warnings on Antibiotics
By Lisa Richwine

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Antibiotics will need to carry warnings advising doctors to avoid unnecessary prescriptions, a major contributor to the problem of drug-resistant infections, U.S. health officials said on Wednesday.

The new requirement aims to reduce inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics for common ailments such as ear infections and chronic coughs, which often are caused by viruses that do not respond to antibiotics.

Antibiotics only kill bacteria, but patients often request them for treating a variety of infections.

Starting next year, antibiotic labels should include instructions for doctors to prescribe them only when an infection is proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria, the Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites) said.

The labels also will encourage physicians to counsel patients about what types of infections require antibiotic treatment, as well as remind them to take all of their medication, even if they feel better in a few days.

Not completing a full course of treatment can give microbes the chance to mutate to resist antibiotics, causing infections that are harder to treat. Overprescribing the drugs also is considered a major reason that antibiotic resistance is increasing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (news - web sites), half of the 100 million prescriptions a year written by office-based physicians in the United States are unnecessary because they are prescribed for the common cold and other viral infections.

"Antibiotic resistance is a serious and growing public health problem, not only in this country but worldwide," FDA Commissioner Mark McClellan said, noting that the growth of resistant germs is outpacing development of new antibiotics.

"We may end up in a situation where we don't have effective antibiotic drugs for common infections that were once easily treated," McClellan said in an interview.

The agency plans to try and publicize the warnings through medical journals and professional medical societies, McClellan said.

Jeff Trewhitt, a spokesman for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, said the drug industry group had just begun reviewing the rule. He declined to comment further.

David Markowitz, M.D.

Have you ever wondered how many components of your body and immune system know what to do and when to do it?

When a bacterium, virus, or fungus enters your body, dozens of immune system cells, molecules and body chemicals move into action and work to together to defeat the invader or kill a mutated cell that has become cancer. Once the battle with the pathogens is being won, this army of immune system components knows to quiet down and decrease activity. If they didn’t, you could develop an autoimmune condition such as lupus, MS, type 1 diabetes, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, or one of more than 100 other autoimmune conditions.

Your immune system has smart cells or smart molecules that regulate all of this activity. One class of these smart peptides is called transfer factor. You have millions of transfer factors in your body right now. Without these regulators, your immune system would be chaotic and less effective. Transfer factors move throughout the body in a soup or team of communication molecules. Transfer factors belong to a class of immune system molecules called cytokines. Cytokines are communication molecules. A great deal of communication takes place within your immune system at all times.

Memory Molecules

Transfer factors also store information about the activities of your immune system. For example, if you had chicken pox as a child you are unlikely to develop this condition again. Why? Chicken pox germs enter your body off and on throughout your life. The reason you do not develop chicken pox again is that your immune system remembers the characteristics of the germ and how it was defeated. This information is stored in a number of immune system components, such as antibodies and transfer factors. Transfer factors are more sophisticated and have a broader range of influence than do antibodies. When your body is attacked or cells mutate, transfer factors regulate a host of immune system components to move into the battle. Once the battle is over, there is a feedback function within the transfer factor soup that alerts the transfer factors that they need to down-regulate the activity.

Recognition and Modulation

Another benefit of the recognition properties of transfer factors is in the case of allergies. An agent that causes allergies should pass through your body without triggering an immune system response. When the recognition function of the immune system does not recognize the dust or pollen as an innocent factor, it attacks it and secretes histamine and other inflammatory agents. Transfer factors assist the immune system in recognizing threats and then can up-regulate its activities or down-regulate its activities. They modulate the immune system. Transfer factors influence the activities of a great number of immune system components, such as natural killer cells, killer T cells, macrophages, monocytes, interferon, a number of interluekins, etc. Some of these cytokines involved in inflammation are regulated by transfer factors. When your transfer factors do not recognize a problem, you get ill with such things as a cold, flu, infection, hepatitis, herpes, allergies, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and many other illnesses.

Due to stress, pollution, pesticides, poor diet, genetic factors, mutating germs, etc., your natural body transfer factors do not do the job that they were created to do. What is the difference between a person who develops cancer and one who doesn’t? What is the difference when one person in a family develops the flu but another doesn’t? Why do some people develop heart disease but others living almost exactly the same don’t? The difference is in the immune system.

Scientists in Japan recently conducted a major study of individuals who had low natural killer cell activity. Those who were low in natural killer cell activity developed cancer at a greater rate than individuals with a higher level of natural killer cell activity. The immune system makes all the difference!

Your Immune System - A Priority System

The immune system even affects your energy levels. The immune system is the #1 priority system in your body. Why? Because it fights for your life every day. A simple cold germ could multiply until it killed you if your immune system didn’t stop it. Germs enter your body several times per day. Any one of them could kill you. Your body is constantly under attack from free radicals that mutate cells. Macrophages seek out these mutating cells and kill them. Once the macrophage kills the cell, it secretes a chemical that creates a fibroblast, which is very important to the birth of a new cell.

Since the immune system is the priority system, it gets your body resources first when you are under attack. Think about how you feel when you are ill. The majority of how you feel isn’t from the germ in your body; it is from the reaction of your immune system. Your immune system uses vitamins, minerals, cellular energy, oxygen, hormones, and many of the other body resources. When your body is under attack, the immune system drains the rest of your body of these resources causing you to feel tired and weak.

Even a healthy person needs outside assistance to help his immune system, which is constantly working hard to keep the individual healthy. Consider this. The immune system should function at 60-70% of its capacity so that when a germ enters the body or cells mutate, it can increase its activity quickly to defeat the threat. When the immune system is working at 90-100% of its capacity because of stress, pollution, or some other reason, other systems will suffer and you may develop a health condition or experience premature aging.
Transfer factors are very central to all of this activity. Transfer factors are even involved in the level of antioxidants in your body and within your cells such as glutathione, catalase, and ascorbic acid. Your own natural transfer factors are involved in your body’s level of glutathione-S-transferase, the primary detoxification agent in your cells.

Transfer Factors versus Regular Nutrients

Transfer factors work completely differently in your body than nutrients. Each nutrient has a narrow range of function in the immune system. Nutrients can nourish immune system components, act as a catalyst, and turn on certain receptors in immune system cells. Transfer factors regulate all of these immune system components. The influence of transfer factors on a particular immune system component is many times greater than any nutrient. Transfer factors, as smart cells, have feedback functions that nutrients do not have. Transfer factors actually enhance the efficiency of nutrients.

You Have Transfer Factors in Your Body Now, Why Consume More?

Our transfer factors have been conditioned over hundreds and even thousands of years to deal with the environment. Modern society developed over the past hundred years. Before this, your immune system didn’t have to deal with the magnitude of pollution and stress. There were no pesticides or growth hormones in and on our food. We didn’t have fast foods with tons of sugar and trans-fats. Society wasn’t as stressful when our immune systems were developed. Hunting animals for food, as our forefathers did, was far different than today’s world of financial problems, relationship challenges, and attacks against our self-esteem. In response to stress, our bodies pump cortisol into our systems, which suppresses our immune systems.

Modern travel has also created a problem for our immune systems. The immune systems of local natives had only the local germ species to deal with. Their immune systems were conditioned to handle those local types of germs. Now we travel around the world within hours, transporting foreign germs into local populations. The immune system is overwhelmed with invaders that it is not familiar with. Our immune systems require assistance to deal with all of these new threats.

GENEVA – Swine flu is now formally a pandemic, a declaration by U.N. health officials that will speed vaccine production and spur government spending to combat the first global flu epidemic in 41 years. Thursday's announcement by the World Health Organization doesn't mean the virus is any more lethal — only that its spread is considered unstoppable.

Since it was first detected in late April in Mexico and the United States, swine flu has reached 74 countries, infecting nearly 29,000 people. Most who catch the bug have only mild symptoms and don't need medical treatment.

WHO chief Dr. Margaret Chan made the long-awaited declaration after the U.N. agency held an emergency meeting with flu experts and said she was moving to phase 6 — the agency's highest alert level — which means a pandemic is under way.

"The world is moving into the early days of its first influenza pandemic in the 21st century," Chan said in Geneva.

Dr. Thomas Frieden, the new head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in Atlanta that he does not expect widespread public anxiety in the United States as a result of the declaration, noting it came nearly two months after the virus was identified.

For many weeks, U.S. health officials have been treating it as a pandemic, increasing the availability of anti-viral flu medicines and pouring money into a possible vaccination program. And scientists have grown to understand that the virus is generally not much more severe than the seasonal flu.

"That helps to tamp down any fears that may be excessive," Frieden said at a news conference — his first as CDC director.

But the virus can still be deadly and may change into a more frightening form in the near future, and so people should not be complacent, he added.

So far, swine flu has caused 144 deaths, compared with ordinary flu that kills up to 500,000 people a year.

The pandemic decision might have been made much earlier if WHO had more accurate information about swine flu's rising sweep through Europe. Chan said she called the emergency meeting with flu experts after concerns were raised that some countries, such as Britain, were not accurately reporting their cases.

Chan said the experts unanimously agreed there was a wider spread of swine flu than was being reported.

She would not say which country tipped the world into the pandemic, but WHO flu chief Keiji Fukuda said the situation from Australia seemed to indicate the virus was spreading rapidly there — more than 1,300 cases were reported by Thursday.

In Chile, authorities have identified almost 1,700 cases to WHO.

Many health experts said the world has been in a pandemic for weeks but WHO became too bogged down by politics to declare one. In May, several countries urged WHO not to declare a pandemic, fearing it would cause social and economic turmoil. At the time, WHO said it would rewrite its pandemic definition to avoid announcing one.

But with the recent surge in cases across Europe, Chile, Australia and Japan, the agency was under increasing pressure to acknowledge a pandemic.

"This is WHO finally catching up with the facts," said Michael Osterholm, a flu expert at the University of Minnesota.

David Ropeik, an expert in risk perception and communication at Harvard University, says the word pandemic is less frightening than when emerged during worries about bird flu a few years ago.

He said the "soft buildup" to declaring swine flu a pandemic has been helpful.

"That allows people to get used to what is otherwise a scary word, understand the particulars of the disease, and that should mean reaction will be a little more information-based and a little less emotional," Ropeik said in an e-mail.

WHO will now recommend that pharmaceutical companies make swine flu vaccine. The agency typically recommends which flu strains drug companies should use in the vaccines. In a global outbreak, WHO also advises whether companies should make pandemic vaccine.

The decision to make pandemic vaccine is a gamble. Most flu vaccine makers cannot make both regular seasonal flu vaccine and pandemic vaccine at the same time. That means they must decide which one the world will need more.

Drug giant GlaxoSmithKline PLC said it could start commercial production of pandemic vaccine in July but that it would take months before large quantities are available.

Glaxo spokesman Stephen Rea said the company's first doses of vaccine would be reserved for countries who had ordered it in advance, including Belgium, Britain and France. He said Glaxo would also donate 50 million doses to WHO for poor countries.

Pascal Barollier, a spokesman for Sanofi-Aventis, said they were also working on a pandemic vaccine but WHO had not yet asked them to start making mass quantities of it.

WHO described the pandemic as "moderate." Fukuda said people should not get overly anxious about the virus. "Understand it, put it in context, and then you get on with things," he said.

Still, about half of the people who have died from swine flu were previously young and healthy — people who are not usually susceptible to flu. Swine flu is also crowding out regular flu viruses. Both features are typical of pandemic flu viruses.

Swine flu is also continuing to spread during the start of summer in the northern hemisphere. Normally, flu viruses disappear with warm weather, but swine flu is proving to be resilient.

"What this declaration does do is remind the world that flu viruses like H1N1 need to be taken seriously," said U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, warning that more cases could crop up in the fall.

Now that a pandemic has been declared, some countries might be prompted to devote more money to containing the virus. Many developed countries have pandemic preparedness plans that link spending to a WHO declaration.

The U.N. is keen to avoid panic. "We must guard against rash and discriminatory action, such as travel bans or trade restrictions," said U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Fear has already gripped Argentina, where thousands have flooded hospitals this week, bringing emergency health services in Buenos Aires to the brink of collapse during winter weather. Last month, a bus arriving in Argentina from Chile was stoned by people who thought a passenger had swine flu.

China has quarantined travelers, including New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, on the slightest suspicion of contact with an infected person.

The U.S. government has already increased the availability of flu-fighting medicines and authorized $1 billion for developing a new swine flu vaccine. In addition, new cases seem to be declining in many parts of the country, U.S. health officials say, as North America moves out of its traditional winter flu season.

Still, New York City reported three more swine flu deaths Thursday, including a child under 2, a teenager and a person in their 30s.

"Countries where outbreaks appear to have peaked should prepare for a second wave of infection," Chan warned.

Targeted Transfer Factors

A Breakthrough in Heart Health
“Targeted Transfer Factors”

Recently, the prestigious journal, Scientific American, reported the results of a study on a breakthrough in the understanding of heart disease. For the past few years, a number of scientists havebeen re-evaluating the root cause of heart disease. Health professionals throughout the world have been concerned and confused by the increase in the incidence of heart disease. The article in Scientific American authored by Dr. Paul Libby from Harvard University explained the new understanding of heart disease.

During the past few decades, the general public has experienced a continuous increase in heart disease in spite of an increase in exercise, nutritional consumption and a decrease in fat consumption. The haunting question has been why? Last year, more than one million people died of heart disease. It is estimated that more than 60 million people in the United States have some form of cardiovascular problem. The fact that 40% of individuals that experience heart attacks do not have high cholesterol levels and exhibit no symptoms of circulatory problems is an unexplained phenomenon in cardiovascular health. Underscoring the seriousness of this problem was the discovery of how early in life heart disease begins. In a recent study of autopsies of individuals that died in automobile accidents, it was found that the majority of 16-34 year-olds suffered from the beginning stages of heart disease.

Recently, studies have revealed the true cause of heart disease. This discovery explains the increase in heart disease over the past few decades in spite of all the efforts to reduce heart disease. Research has found that the universally accepted hypothesis for the cause of heart disease has been wrong. Cardiologists throughout the world have been wrong on the cause of heart disease and wrong on how to address heart disease. It was once believed that over a period of time cholesterol clogged the artery like a drain becomes clogged. This study found that heart disease actually begins with an immune system dysfunction.

Scientists found that there are two basic pathways through which the immune system becomes involved in a cascade of events that lead to heart disease. One of these pathways begins with an infection in the lining of the artery. There are six known pathogens that are found within the lining of the artery that may be involved in triggering an initial immune system response. The second pathway involves modified cholesterol entering the lining of the artery. In response to these pathways, the immune system creates a cascade of inflammatory responses that initiate the process that leads to heart disease.

The Harvard University researcher discovered the greatest danger was not cholesterol building up inside the artery channel but cholesterol building up inside the lining of the artery. The cholesterol actually explodes into the channel of the artery from the lining, often without notice and in seemingly healthy individuals with a dysfunctional immune system being the primary agent of disease. Scientists found that even individuals with strong immune systems in other areas can suffer from this condition.

In 1997, David Lisonbee had a theory that heart disease was related to a dysfunctional immune system. In 1998, he commissioned Dr. Hennen to initiate a research project that would address the connection between the immune system and heart disease. In order for Dr. Hennen to achieve this goal, he had to take the science of transfer factors to a level that had never been achieved before by any other scientists. In August of 2002, all of his extensive research paid off in the unveiling of TF Cardio.

In order to apply this breakthrough to cardiovascular health, these researchers had to develop new biotechnology. Transfer factors were bio-engineered to target pathogens hiding in the lining of arteries. These pathogens are believed to create the cascade of events leading to inflammation and heart disease. Also, the transfer factors have the ability to balance the immune system in the lining of the arteries. It appears that a balanced and functional immune system is a key to the health of the cardiovascular system.

Transfer factors contain inducers and suppressors that work together to balance or modulate the immune system. It is believed that the suppressors in transfer factors will reduce inflammation. Inflammation is a cause of some cancers, certain types of heart disease and other health conditions. Although targeted transfer factors form the core ingredients that make this formulation effective and exceptional, several other important nutrients have been included in order to address other issues in the health of the cardiovascular system. Nutrients such as red rice brand extract, CoQ10, and arginine havebeen included in order to provide the best overall natural approach to a healthy cardiovascular system.

Research has indicated that red rice brand extract can be beneficial in maintaining healthy levels of cholesterol. CoQ10 is an enzyme that is involved in the production of cellular energy in every cell in your body. CoQ10 interacts with other natural chemicals in the mitochondria. Every cell in your body must have energy to stay alive and properly perform its function. The heart is a muscle that is constantly working and under pressure. A great deal of energy is expended through the heart muscle. More than 4,000 studies have been conducted on CoQ10 in conjunction with a healthy heart. Arginine is involved in the production and regulation of nitric oxide. Each time the heart beats, the miles of circulatory system contract and relax. The process is very important to the delivery of blood to every cell in the body. Nitric oxide is chemically involved in this process. Magnesium and potassium are included in this formula. These minerals are involved in the body’s attempt to maintain healthy blood pressure. Copper and Zinc are included because of their influence on the immune system and in maintaining healthy levels of “good” cholesterol or HDL. Selenium, folic acid, vitamins B-12, C, E, and the amino acid lysine are included to decrease lipid oxidation, decrease platelet aggregation, reduce homocysteine levels and affect a number of other important body functions.

Heart disease is the number one killer. Many people live compromised lives because of an unhealthy cardiovascular system. A great number of individuals that experience sudden heart attacks do not have high cholesterol levels or any signs of heart problems. Our knowledge of nutrition and good health has greatly increased in the past few years. Many individuals are taking a proactive approach to health.

4Life Research has established itself as the leader in cardiovascular health by being the first scientists in the world to discover and patent this new technology. Presently, this is the only technology that utilizes a nutritional pathway in addressing the most recent discovery reported by researchers from Harvard University.
